What is Shutter Lag at Digital Camera ?
When we are start into digital camera world,
shutter lag become popular.
This problem is not occur when we use analog film camera. This article will
give information about what is shutter lag.
Shutter lag is time delay when we are fully press the shutter button at digital
camera until the camera really capture the picture into memory card. It can
said that every digital camera have shutter lag, but how long the time between
each digital camera is different. Usually more expensive camera have shorter
shutter lag delay time than more cheaper. The technology also determine it time
delay. The new technology camera usually have faster shutter lag delay than
the old technology.
Why Digital Camera has Shutter Lag?
Digital camer have different technic to capture and save picture then analog
film camera. When we want to capture an object from digital camera, usually
digicam have to focus first with autofocus technology (analog camera also have
it), half press of shutter button will make the camera try to focus to get best
option.
After focusing the object, we continue to truly capture the object by full
press it shutter button. After press the shutter button, the digital camera
still have to calculate some data where sensor get before, to calculate the
lighting, the color and some other information. The calculation is done by digital
image processing at digital camera. After get the result the last think is save
the picture at memory card
Every process need little time to get the result, that's why every digital
camera have shutter lag delay time, and every digital camera have a different
shutter lag time, and really dipend by the technolgy.
Why Analog Camera does not have Shutter Lag ?
At Analog Camera, mostly dipend of the shutter mechanic. When we press the
shutter button, the shutter will open to capture the light and receive by film
next to the shutter. How long the shutter open, will be how many light the film
got. That's why most of analog film camera does not have shutter lag.
How to decrease shutter lag delay ?
Some tips to decrease shutter lag delay is :
- If you can, choose a camera with manual exposire and manual focus control,
and try not using automatic mode as you can do.
- Try to use Continuous Shooting / Continuous AF mode.
- At the possible situation, always push half press shutter button to set
the autofocus first before the real time to shoot.
- Try yourself with your own digital camera characteristic.
