WHY AND TIPS ABOUT RED-EYE AT DIGITAL CAMERA
Why is Red-Eye appear?
At the low light condition, our retina open more wider, at the normal light
condition, the retina will become smaller. This is the cause of red-eye when
we shoot person at low light condition. Low light make the retina open wider,
then when the flash fire, the flash will reflected back to the camera lens.
This make the film or sensor save the red color because of reflection of the
retina. Also at the younger age of people, the retina will more wider than older
age.
This red eye also happen because the flash is too close to lens, when the flash
fire, this condition could give more easy for the reflection from the eyes catch
back by the lens and continue to camera sensor.
How to avoid red-eye using a digital camera flash?
Some of many digital camera have red-eye reduction function. This function
give the preflash first to the retina which could make the retina become smaller
(because it receive the preflash), at this condition the camera still not save
the picture. After several millisecond the main flash will fire again and together
with saving the object to camera. So the camera will fire the flash twice, one
is only for inducement the retina to become smaller, than the second flash is
main flash for brighten the object to capture and save become picture.
The red-eye photo is can be easy to remove by software, such as photoshop or
the native software of each camera. With some trick the red-eye will be removed
with only take little time.
